Take Effective Action
If you have read any of my articles you will realize how much I believe your thoughts create your reality. This is for those of you who may feel more comfortable with action rather than just pure thought. It will also help you clarify your thoughts and thus bring you closer to Advanced Success instead of just Success.
It is the simple act of journaling. I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with the concept but I have a twist on the old “diary” format. We can all use a journal to recount a situation or use it to blow off steam and vent our frustrations but I want to suggest you use it in a more powerful way. Sure it’s ok to describe the “what is” in life. The actual events as you see them, but instead of making that the main focus, take a step further and describe how you would like to change things.
For example, if you have had a bad day at work and the boss has treated you (in your opinion, usually not in his!) badly, blow off steam by describing your feelings. Let them all flow out onto the page as if you were a pressure cooker and the journal was your release valve. When you feel like you are no more complaining, ranting or angry statements left, imagine how you would rather see the event unfolding. See the entire sonerio playing out the way you would have liked. Would the boss have said, “I know you were working on that project all day yesterday and I really appreciate your efforts.” instead of “where’s that project I need it now, haven’t you finished it yet?”
The idea is to focus more on how you would like your life to be rather than on what you don’t like. You may say “well that doesn’t help me now, the boss has already yelled at me and doesn’t appreciate me for anything I do”. That may be so right now but all he is doing is matching the energy you emitted that was attached to your past beliefs. Those of low self esteem, disempowerment, victimization and fear to name a few possible belief patterns that would elicit a negative response from someone. Your thoughts are like a magnetic energy field that attracts whatever you have been focusing on. We are electrical beings that emmitt signals and the others respond to our signals. Just as we can't hear the sounds an animal hears there are signals being emitted by us that others respond to.
You can get a sense of it if you walk into a room and someone is seething with anger but doesn't say a word. You can "feel" the anger, it is emitting from them. They are unconsiously emitting energy and it is easy to identify without words. Our brains emitt energy with our thoughts and our environment responds to what we emitt. Thoughts thought on over a long period of time become our beliefs and become very strong energy signals. If your belief pattern is that you boss never appreciates you that is what you will draw to you.
The world will always match your thought patterns so why not start to concentrate on thought patterns that make you happy? Reframing past events helps you clarify what you want, how you want to be treated and how you want to feel. Your entire being responds to your thoughts and can't tell the difference between thoughts that observe your present momnet or thoughts that are hopes and dreams. Your blood pressure will reduce, your body will relax and your breathing will be calmer. Instantly your sense of well-being is improved when you see the world as you want it to be.
I help clients regularly with this process and have great success. The thing is you don’t always have access to a Life Coach right when you need them but you can always grab a piece of paper and a pen and start journaling. The written word seems to add greater substance to thought patterns mainly because it increases your ability to focus. If you don’t want to rewrite past events, just concentrate on how you would like your life to be in the future. A key element here that is all too often overlooked is to be content in the knowing that you can shape your life into whatever you so desire. Frustration of any kind will neutralize positive thoughts so be content in your now place while you look forward to experiencing the wonderful experiences you have set in motion with your happy thoughts.
Journaling everyday will act as a broom to sweep away old destructive thought patterns and refresh your life with new and wonderful possibilities. You have nothing to loose and everything to gain. Give it a go and see what wonders you can create with this effective form of action.
