HowTo Get More Done- Work While You're Asleep!
Most of us live stressful lives and want faster solutions to problems so we can get more done. Our brains are usually stretched to the max whatever it is that we are doing and it is hard to imagine being more efficient than we are. It may sound strange but trying harder is not the answer.
We need to relax and let our brain work for us not go around in circles and work against us. More often than not when we search for solutions we create more confusion and muddy the waters of our minds. Clarity can’t appear in muddy water so let go of forcing things into being. Relax and still your mind and allow solutions to present themselves.
How often have you heard people saying, “I was in the shower and an idea came to me” or “I was playing golf and I had this great idea” or “I woke up in the middle of the night and had a brilliant idea”. Solutions to stress and problems come when we release the angst around them. Has your mother ever said, “Why don’t you sleep on it and think about it in the morning”? This is the best advice I know for allowing solutions to find there way through the muddiness of confused thinking and present themselves clearly to you.
When next you find yourself stressed with a problem that you just can’t get clarity on try this great stress relief technique to help you find your answers.
1. At night when you get into bed relax and program your mind. Ask the question you need the answer for as clearly as you can. “I want to find a way to…...., or "I need to know how to"..….or "I want to know what to do about …….” Then just relax and go to sleep.
2. Your subconscious will go to work on the problem as you sleep and it won’t be distracted by all the questions and worry of your “awake mind”. Your “asleep mind” will be free to sift through options and present you with the most appropriate solution. I have found the result is one clear answer that sits well with me rather than lots of options that I am confused about.
3. As soon as you wake write down the solution that presents itself before you have a chance to dissect it and question it.
4. If nothing presents itself don’t worry, repeat the process each night and expect the answer to come. Remember we always get what we expect so expect the answer to emerge. If you go to sleep with the mind set of “this can’t work” you’re programming yourself to fail. As Henry Ford said “Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right.” Sometimes I wake in the middle of the night with the answer but most often my mind holds the answer until morning.
When you get familiar with this process try it through the day. Tell yourself that you are not going to worry about the problem until after lunch and that’s when you will expect the answer. I haven’t had as much luck with this process as I have with the night programming as my mind can run away into all sorts of possibilities and create a bit of a tangled mess through the day but at night it rests and is more likely to allow the answer to emerge. I would encourage you to try the day process after you are comfortable and confident with the night time process.
Here’s to your clear thinking and sweet dreams.
