How To Create The Best Relationship You'll Ever Have
Who is your best friend? Do you treat your best friend better than other people in your life?
What are the things you think about when you think about your best friend? Do they go
something like this?
I value you
I appreciate you
I respect you
I recognize your deservability
I have time for you
I listen to you
I don’t judge you
You are important to me
Most of us feel this way about our best friends. They help us through tough times, they listen
to our problems even if we continually repeat unwanted life experiences, they encourage us
to see the best in ourselves and they nurture our self image. We need really good friends in
our life as they are like beautiful flowers, beautiful and wonderful to be around, but if
ignored and treated badly, they can wither away and die.
Often when we are in our darkest places our friends step up and can become a lifeline to
wellbeing. Have you ever stopped and realized who is your best friend? I hope the answer is
yes and I also hope you have realized that the best person to be your best friend is you. You
are the one who you spend the most time with. You are the one who feels your pain and joy.
You are the one who can take you by the hand and lead you through dark and scary places
and will sit with you no matter what is happening in your life. The true you will not judge or
belittle you, the true you will not criticize you, the true you is patient and supportive. The
true you loves you no matter what. Now that’s a real true friend. Have you met the true you?
If you are not that acquainted with this amazing being I suggest you take some time every
day if possible to get acquainted. We all have that friend inside us waiting to be our very
best friend.
With a friend like that how would you treat them? Would you be angry at them for repeating
what you may see as mistakes? Would you ignore their support? Would you close your ears
to their love? I think not. But often that’s what we do. We berate ourselves where a true
friend would not. We are mean and unloving where a true friend would not be.
Watch how
you are a friend to others and turn it around on yourself. Be more encouraging to yourself. Be more forgiving to yourself. Be more supportive even if it appears you take one step
forward and two steps backward. Be patient with yourself.
What is that you love to do? Do you love to go for long walks and appreciate nature? Do you
love going to read? Do you love spa days? Do you love fun, fast exciting days?
Whatever it
is that you love, spend that time you your new best friend, you, and discover more about
yourself. Some people don’t like time alone and I feel that is because they have forgotten the
art of communication with self. Give yourself a facial, take the dog for a run, arrange for the
kids to be out of the house for a few hours or take yourself to your favorite place and spend
time with you. Treat yourself the way you would your best friend. Nurture your relationship
with you and pay yourself the attention you deserve. Make time for yourself, you’re worth it.
When you start to be more of a best friend to yourself you will feel stronger you will feel
more deserving and you will see all areas of your life improve. Look in the mirror and say
the things in the beginning of this article to yourself. Repeat them daily for thirty days and
feel the difference inside.
Be the best friend you deserve as friends are precious indeed.
